Quo Vadis 2017: A New Attendee’s Perspective
As a Canadian of Polish origin, I started my business career in the late 1990’s without really considering how my Polish heritage could fit into my career path. At that time, Poland was still in the midst of changing from the old communist economic model to its current capitalist one. I wasn’t in contact with very many Poles in my workaday affairs in Canada. My work was conducted in English with a bit of French here and there. I also didn’t know too many young Poles my age, since I grew up in a part of Winnipeg that was mostly English. Needless to say, I felt very disconnected from my Polish roots until four years ago, when I visited my family in Poland that I had not seen since 1983.
Thankfully for today’s young Polish students and professionals in Canada and around the world, there now is a way that they can connect with other Poles from a whole array of career paths. The Quo Vadis Conferences had its very first event in Canada’s capital city of Ottawa in 2009, and it has grown into one of the world’s largest professional networking events in the world. The main purpose of Quo Vadis is to bring together students and young professionals of Polish origin for three purposes: to encourage and strengthen an active Polonia, to explore and connect further into their identity, and to gain valuable leadership and communication skills to help them become successful in their careers.
This year’s edition of Quo Vadis will be held October 13th and 14th in Burlington, Ontario and will prove to be a wonderful time for all who have registered as delegates and for those who have been chosen to be speakers. There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to meet and get to know each other through various scheduled lectures and panels, as well as a Saturday night mixer!
If you haven’t purchased your ticket yet for this event, I encourage you to do so by visiting the Quo Vadis website at quovadisconferences.org and look for the ‘Register’ button under the ‘Nowa Fala Conference’ menu. I have my ticket and I am looking forward to attending my first Quo Vadis conference. When you have a chance, please come say ‘hi’ to one or more of our hard-working committee members who have put on this conference with great skill and enthusiasm for all of us to enjoy.
So, on October 13th and 14th, come out to this year’s Quo Vadis in Burlington and connect with your fellow Poles! Serdecznie zapraszamy!
